Dark Nights presents Original Vampires StoriesVampires are beings of legend that are immortal, they feed of human and/or animal blood. Popular myths refer to the blood-drinking undead of Eastern Europe, particularly Romania and Hungary. The legend has it that it's possible to become a vampire by being bitten by one, or by being born of a vampire, although other myths claim that vampires cannot have offspring of their own, since they are dead already... The legends of the vampires claim that a vampire will not reflect in a mirror, cannot stand the sunlight (as they are creatures of the night only) or the Christian cross symbol (as they are supposedly evil creatures), are sexually very alluring, have a commanding presence, sleep by day in coffins or dark places, and that vampires are immortal... A vampire can be destroyed, though, by fire or by being beheaded, or, more commonly, by means of a stake, wooden or metallic, completely piercing their heart. Vampires are a famous subject in cinema, in either Hollywood or European movies, and also in books, where Bram Stoker's Dracula and Ann Rice's Interview with the Vampire are the most notable examples, plus the wonderful new series of novels, Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, which take a more modern, even humane look at vampires as sensitive, therefore passionate beings (as opposed to the cold- hearted Count Dracula of centuries ago.
