The Knights Templar were a secret military and religious order founded under the auspices of the Catholic Church, for the purpose of protecting the pilgrims who dared to visit the Holy City of God, in Israel. The Knights Templars vowed to fight the infidels to death, the infidels being the muslim arabs. The Knights Templar were sworn to secrecy, and they lived austere lives. The Knights Templar created banking, so they paved the way for modern financing, as we know it.
King Philip IV of France ordered the arrest of the Templars... They had become too powerful finantially, and even kings and the Pope feared them, as all of them owed them huge amounts... The Knights Templars were systematically arrested, tortured, and finally exterminated. The Temaplars had become a definite threat to the ones in power.
The Templars are still revered and respected, they left a legacy of honor and chivalry unmatched in the modern world. many masonic orders nowadays claim to be Templar in their philosophy and principles. And many still admire their courage and bravery, as the Knights Templar were bold warriors who fought to death.
